Hours of Operation 8:00 to 4:30 Monday Through Friday Phones Answered 7:00 to 4:30 Closed for Lunch 12-1 Saturdays Walk in Hours for Urgent Visits Only 8 to 11 am No Phones Available Saturday Phone Calls Our phones are on at 7:00 am. We ask that you call for same day appointments between 7:00 and 10 am. There will be times that you are unable to have your questions and concerns allayed by the sources of information available in either our Newborn Handout, Illness Handout, a baby book that we may provide or on line sources. WPA has experienced phone nurses who are able to answer many of your questions or take a note and discuss your child's problem with a physician. For questions that do not require an appointment we ask you to try to call after 10 am. During some seasons of the year and on certain days of the week, the phones can be quite busy which can translate to longer hold times that we would like. Before calling our office or the exchange always gather any history and other information which may be needed. Review what medicines your child is taking or has recently received. See what medicines you may have in the house. Know whether your pharmacy is open. If you have not been with your child talk to the person who has been providing the care and get as much history as possible. If your sitter calls and tells you that your child is ill, go and evaluate the situation yourself before calling. Try to be specific in your questions. Try to determine in your mind whether you think your child needs to be seen and examined. A Picture or a visit is worth many phone calls and at times only by talking face to face can concerns be known.

Emergencies 911 Poison Control: 1-800-222-1212 IF you need assistance after hours, there are several possibilities in addition to our Newborn Handout and our Illness Handout. One is the St. Louis Children's Hospital 454-KIDS Line, a free community service provided by St. Louis Children's Hospital. This is a good source of information for non urgent questions and general information. St. Louis Children's Hospital KIDS Line 1-800-454-KIDS For more urgent matters Washington Pediatric Associates maintains an exchange service utilizing St. Louis Children's Hospital nurses and guidelines. There is a cost to the individual physician each time the service is accessed. WPA After Hours Exchange 1-888-350-0252 We chose this service after many years of the physicians handling all after hours phone calls. Guidelines are set by a group of private practice pediatricians. Although as a parent it is always nice to talk to your own doctor or a physician you know, this is not always possible. We feel that this nurse triage service offers the best possible after hours advice for our patients. On line medical sources of help Search at St. Louis Children's Hospital
